Ask for less ice with your
spirit and mixer - that way you
will be able to fit in more soft
drink to dilute the alcohol and
make it last longer.
Don't eat salty snacks,
such as peanuts or crisps, while
you're drinking. They will make you
thirsty for more alcohol.
If you drink to calm
your nerves, find an alternative, such
as taking deep breaths, doing something
relaxing like gardening or going
on a brisk walk.
Give yourself a drinking
curfew. Don't allow any alcohol to
pass your lips before 6.30pm or after
10pm .
Eat before drinking.
It makes you feel more full, so you
won't feel inclined to drink as much.
If your usual tipple is
a glass of wine, try having a
spritzer with soda water - your
body will not dehydrate as quickly,
and it will take you longer to
drink it.
Stick to gin and slim-line
tonic (55 calories a glass) instead
of your usual glass of wine and you
will cut 32 calories.
Don't drink alcohol to
quench your thirst - have a soft
drink first.
Don't let your social
life revolve around alcohol. If you
would normally meet your friends in
a pub, try somewhere else instead.
Keep a drinks diary,
noting down when you have a drink and
how many you have had.
